WEATHER ON THE WATER. Everyone who leaves the shore has a weather story to tell. What’s yours? A storm at sea? Drifting in the doldrums? Snow on the deck? Coping with heat? Paddling into headwinds? We’d like to hear about them all!

Facing Your Fear. Have you learned to cope with your fear on board? What were the rewards? (Storms? Sharks? Climbing the mast? Stepping onboard? Docking? Kayaking? Swimming? Snorkeling, Diving? Any fears are valid fears and we’d like to hear about them all!)

The Sistership Books Short Story Writing Competitions and Awards are open to aspiring or emerging writers as well as established writers. Your story must not have been published elsewhere previously, or have won or be under consideration in other story competitions. All winning stories or part-of stories may be published on/in SisterShip Books' website, SisterShip Magazine’s website/magazine, social media, and/or in an anthology of short stories (ebook, paperback, and audio) published by SisterShip Books and SeaScribe Pty Ltd and made available for sale. SISTERSHIP BOOKS SHORT STORY COMPETITION TERMS & CONDITIONS OVERVIEW

IMPORTANT: PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE BELOW ENTRY GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS AND DOWNLOAD THE FULL TERMS & CONDITIONS PRIOR TO ENTERING ANY COMPETITIONS.


HOW TO ENTER


  • Submit your story via email: writingcomp@seascribebooks.com
  • Complete (and send us) the entry form (provided below) with your story.
  • Stories must be on a Word document with no formatting and no pictures throughout the text. (If you do not use Word, place your text in the body of an email, we will copy it into a Word document and you will still remain anonymous to the judges).
  • Write the title of the story and the page number on each page.
  • Your stories will be judged anonymously, so do not write your name on the same pages as your story.
  • We will confirm receipt of your story via email, if you do not receive confirmation that your story has been received (within seven days), please let us know.
  • Winners will be contacted by email where possible.
  • Include a short bio (photos are welcome) and a link that you would like to promote.
  • If selected, your story will also appear in an anthology (ebook, paperback, and audio). To be made available for sale and published by SisterShip Books.


RULES OVERVIEW


  • Entry is free of charge.
  • Word count: 4,000 maximum (no minimum).
  • Stories must be relevant to the competition title.
  • No alterations may be made to the story once it has been submitted.
  • You may enter any number of stories but win only one prize. This is to allow the maximum number of entrants to receive recognition.
  • Your stories will not be returned, so keep a copy.
  • Stories will be judged by an independent panel, they will not be given your name with your story.
  • The judging is anonymous but any published stories (in any format/platform) will be credited to the author (unless the author specifically asks that their name is removed).
  • Copyright for all entries submitted remains with the author. Authors give permission and unrestricted rights to SisterShip Books, SeaScribe Pty Ltd and SisterShip Magazine to publish their story/submission in an anthology.
  • Short-listed entries may be published after the close of the competition, and the anthology will be available for sale.
  • There is no guarantee of publication of short-listed or winning entries.
  • There will be no payment (other than allocated prize money) made to authors in respect of entries that are published under the terms of this competition including in any format as mentioned elsewhere in these terms.
  • For entries selected for inclusion in an anthology, the publisher reserves the right to edit the works; any editing will be confined to correction of spelling, grammar, and punctuation where warranted (no ‘corrections’ will be made to the use of slang).
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • By entering this competition you are agreeing to these rules and the extended T&Cs below.
  • **IMPORTANT: If you are a winner and you do not provide all the correct and complete details for the prize money to be sent, we will be unable to make a payment (including the country – these are worldwide competitions and we cannot guess where your bank account is). Full instructions are provided when the placings notification is sent to the winners.
  • By submitted your entry you confirm that you have read and understood the full terms and conditions of this competition.


ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS


The winners will be announced a few months after the competition closes.


ELIGIBILITY


  • Stories to be in English (or English dialect) and should not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere (within the last 30 years).
  • Stories that have won or under consideration in other story competitions are not eligible.
  • Stories should not be a translation of another author’s work.
  • We will accept stories from women of any nationality from any country.
  • You do not have to subscribe to SisterShip Magazine to be eligible, but you do have to identify as a woman.
  • Employees of SisterShip Books, SeaScribe Pty Ltd/ SisterShip Magazine are not eligible for the competition but are for the anthology.
